Christianity and Islam: What American Christians need to know about Muslims
Welcome to my website! I’m a college professor, a published author, and an ordained Baptist minister with a PhD in Bible, living and working in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I taught “Introduction to Islam” in college for a number of years, and I speak about Islam to church and community groups, explaining what modern American Muslims really believe and how they practice Islam.
Today, a lot of what we see and read in the media and on the internet is flat-out wrong. Even worse, much of what gets said in churches about how Christians should deal with Muslims is very UN-Christian. So I started this website to share honest information, and to recommend biblical, Christ-like ways to behave.
I’m a Christian, an evangelical, and a Baptist, married to an Episcopal priest. (I’m also Jewish – since my Mom was born and raised Orthodox Jewish, I’m a lifetime member of the club!) I have Muslim friends and colleagues who share their beliefs and experiences with me, and I visit mosques so that I can learn firsthand about this fascinating religion. I will never myself become Muslim, but since Islam is the #2 religion in the world (and, in a few years, will probably be #2 in the United States), all American Christians should take a little time to learn something about Islam and about those who practice it.
The teachings of God’s Word, the Bible, are at the center of my life and work. Among other things, this means that I deal in truth. I do not and will not “shade” what is true! Real Christians are scrupulously honest -even when it hurts (see Psalm 15!). If you feel the same way – this blog is for you! If not – you’re welcome anyway, but don’t say you weren’t warned!
